Although the temperature still gets up to around 30 degrees in the afternoon every day, autumn is beginning to appear for sure. Some people have been wearing long-sleeve clothes since the evenings are becoming cooler these days, and outside events can be seen more often from the end of August.
On this Saturday, August 31, there will be a festival, organized by the KHB broadcasting company in Sendai, called the KHB Festival. The venue is Kotodai Park (勾当台公園) on Jozenji Street (定禅寺通り). There will be a stage show where many celebrities will appear to sing or do comedy skits, and the “All Japan Sweets Grand Prix,” where you can enjoy a variety of Japanese sweets from all over Japan, will be held.
But the most popular event is a flea market from 10 to 16 o’clock. There you can find many shops that sell second-hand clothes, books, accessories, hand-made stuff and so on at reasonable prices.
Another annual event around Kotodai Park that
you cannot miss is 23rd JozenjiStreet Jazz Festival in Sendai, which will happen on September 6, 7 and 8. It was first started in 1991 to let people enjoy music outside. On each day of the festival, more than 700 bands will play on the street, and about 700,000 people will come to listen. The city becomes the stage itself, so you will find bands playing at places such as the entrances of buildings, shopping districts, and many other open spaces. Even acoustic piano playing can be heard.
Through these events, please enjoy another of Sendai's charms!
