On November 3rd, FGL students, both freshmen and sophomores, took a one-day trip to Iwate prefecture to enjoy the beautiful autumn in the northern part of Japan.
The first place we visited was Genbikei Gorge. With the gorge's mysteriously blue river and rough stones, students had to totter forward, but were fascinated by the grandeur of nature.
The next place we visited was a very famous temple called Chuson-ji in Hiraizumi town. It became extremely famous last year thanks to the temple being designated as a World Heritage site.
Konjiki-do (or Golden Hall), housed within a small concrete temple on the premises, is extremely magnificent: the wooden-made hall is covered with gold leaf and decorated with mother-of-pearl. Everyone was absolutely in awe in front of it. http://www.chusonji.or.jp/en/
In the last place we visited, students experienced making traditional Japanese paper. Such paper is called washi and it is still produced and used now for sliding doors and such. There, the owner of the shop taught them how to make paper and decorate it using their own imaginations.
In 40 minutes or so, the outside of the building was lined with creative works by the participants.
While busy with studies and getting used to their new life, the FGL students could let loose and feel they wouldn’t just be leading a school life.
