Tohoku University Student Festival! (Nov. 2 & 3, 2012)

Tohoku University is holding a festival today (Nov. 2) and tomorrow (Nov. 3).  Student organizations from extra-curricular activities show their achievements or run a booth to sell food and goods.  This festival is an important opportunity for the students to show what they do at their club activities and also to raise funds to manage their organizations.

There is a Korean students’ organization at Tohoku University, and their booth served buchimgae (Korean pancake) and tteokbokki, a stir-fried rice cake. It was very popular.  The students attracting the passersby held up a sign and wore Korean traditional dress.

This is a picture of the outside concert stage for students.  Students from the band club performed on the stage.  The audience were dancing to the music.

This was one of the most popular booths at the festival.  It was run by those from Akita prefecture, and they served their local food called “Yokote Yakisoba” (the food to the right).

The picture below shows the student who made the noodles. He has a license to cook and serve to the public on his apron. He and the boy behind were cooking the noodles using outdoor supplies and cooking tools/ingredients they prepared by themselves.

There were many other sports clubs and cultural clubs which participated in this festival.  Many students played as an important role, and the university was lively throughout the day.
